NINLAN International Schools Shine: A New Era of Academic Excellence

The Executive Director, Professor Ogbonna Onuoha Receiving The Students In His Office

In a remarkable display of academic brilliance and institutional pride, students of NINLAN International Schools (NIS), Aba, have once again demonstrated that excellence is not just an aspiration but a culture deeply embedded within the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN).

Dominating the Aba Literary Stage

At the 2026 Aba Literary Day, organized by the 1992 Set Old Boys Association of All Saints Secondary School, Aba, five students from the Secondary section of NINLAN International Schools emerged overall winners in a highly competitive quiz contest. Competing against some of the most reputable schools in the region, including Word of Faith Group of Schools, Presbyterian Academy, and Ogbor-Hill Secondary School, the NINLAN team distinguished itself through exceptional mastery of subjects across the senior secondary school curriculum.

The competition also tested literary knowledge using Beaten, a novel authored by Obinna Olewe, an alumnus of All Saints Secondary School.

Their victory is a strong affirmation of NINLAN’s commitment to nurturing intellectually sound, confident, and competitive learners.

A National Voice in Academic Writing

Beyond the quiz arena, NINLAN’s excellence was further highlighted at the national level. Miss Chinazom Chimaeze, a student of NINLAN International Schools, achieved an impressive fourth-place finish in the Young Adult School Outreach (YASO) National Essay Competition organized by the Soaring Within Empowerment Foundation. From an initial pool of over 300 participants across Nigeria, Chinazom progressed through multiple stages to secure a place among the top ten finalists, eventually emerging fourth overall at the grand finale held in Lagos on March 7, 2026.  Her achievement reflects not only individual brilliance but also the strength of NINLAN’s academic environment in fostering critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication.

Institutional Pride and Strategic Leadership

Receiving the students and their teachers, the Executive Director of NINLAN, Professor Ogbonna Onuoha, expressed deep satisfaction with their accomplishments, describing them as clear indicators of the Institute’s rising academic profile. He noted that NINLAN International Schools now stand firmly among the leading institutions in Aba, emphasizing the need to sustain and celebrate such achievements as part of building a culture of excellence.

Rewarding Excellence, Inspiring the Future

In recognition of these outstanding performances:

  • The quiz team received a cash reward of ₦250,000
  • Each accompanying teacher was awarded ₦30,000
  • Chinazom Chimaeze received ₦100,000, alongside prior institutional support covering her participation expenses

These incentives underscore NINLAN’s belief in rewarding merit and motivating both students and educators to strive for continuous excellence.

Looking Ahead: Building a Culture of Intellectual Engagement

As part of its forward-looking academic strategy, the Institute’s Management has approved the introduction of structured debate competitions across both the Primary and Secondary sections of the NINLAN International Schools, beginning in the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The initiative aims to:

  • Strengthen critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Enhance public speaking and confidence
  • Foster healthy intellectual competition

Winners of the debates will receive ₦100,000, with additional prizes for runners-up, further reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to academic distinction.

A Collective Achievement

The reception of the students was attended by key members of NINLAN’s Management, reflecting the Institute’s collective pride in the achievements. Among those present were

the Registrar, Chief (Mrs.) Charity Ijoma, the Bursar, Alhaji Kolawole Aliu; the former Institute Librarian, Professor Cyprian Ugwu, and the Director of Works, Arc. Emeka Izuwah.

Conclusion: Excellence as Identity
